The elaborate perforated "half-door" doors that were introduced with the model will ultimately not reach the market. The brand, without explaining the reasons, has decided not to take them to production, instead the 4x4 will continue to have the previous ones.
Jeep has confirmed that one of the most striking novelties of the new generation Wrangler, the new optional perforated doors, will not finally reach the range. According to those responsible for the firm, these were presented only as a prototype and will not be put into production.
During the presentation of the new generation JL of the Wrangler these new doors were mounted in some of the units presented and according to the spokesmen of the brand they would not be available during the first months of commercialization of the model, why not choose
Jeep Wrangler led headlights for upgrade, but they would be incorporated later, facing the model year 2019.
This curious lower opening system, which had a rigid lid to close it when necessary, was designed for 4x4 use, to allow users to see the ground from the sides without having to look out, as is usual. These tried to be a more attractive option than the traditional “half-doors”, the small makeshift doors that the Wrangler has always been able to mount as an option.
The “half-doors” are, as a general rule, removable plastic doors that are lower in height, which allows the user to lean out more easily. These are not usually too aesthetic and as a general rule they do not have glass or enclosure of any kind, but they are more practical to use when crossing a trail zone.
In the aftermarket we can find numerous types of design for this element, from completely smooth covers to elaborate perforated shapes that only prevent objects from outside from entering the cabin.
The design of the last prototype presented attracted a lot of attention and garnered many positive reviews, but it seems that some reason has dissuaded the people of Jeep from taking them into production. It only remains to hope that some aftermarket manufacturer takes the idea and begins to offer this option to the owners of the model.
