The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler will make its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As the main novelties of the new Jeep SUV, they highlight that it has lost weight and that it offers new engine options. The Jeep Wrangler is not exactly a model that changes every little bit. In fact, Ralph Gilles, Head of Design at Fiat Chrysle Automobiles, joked: "Redesigning the Wrangler is like Halley's Comet: only for once every many years."
Thus, the presentation of the new Jeep Wrangler in Los Angeles will be quite an event. And the brand's engineers know it, so, in anticipation, they promise more power, more performance and more off-road capabilities. The only thing that is less, in this case, is the weight.
And it is that the Jeep Wrangler has 'lost' a total of 90 kg with respect to its predecessor. Almost half of this figure comes from improvements made to the design, which uses more highly durable steel than ever before. You will see the
Jeep Wrangler color changing halo led headlights at the SEMA show. Thanks to this, the new 2018 Jeep Wrangler is also a more rigid car. The other half of the lost weight is due to the use of aluminum as a material in many of the panels: in the doors, the roof, the windshield frame...
The structural changes are also intended to ensure that the 2018 Wrangler successfully passes rigorous US safety tests. The current two-door Wrangler didn't do the best in some tests (the four-door did).
As for the design, the new Wrangler 2018 follows the lines of its predecessor, although it incorporates several changes; on the front grille, the lights, the front bumper, the daytime running lights... One of the great novelties is the improved visibility that it now offers, given that the new windshield is 1.5 inches larger. The rear window is also larger.
The new Jeep Wrangler will be offered in three different variants: one, with a hard top (whose panels are lighter and more easily removed). Another, a convertible with a renewed design. And finally, a soft-top version.
Under the hood, the new Jeep Wrangler hides a 3.6-liter V6 engine, with a start-stop system, and associated with a six-speed manual transmission, or an eight-speed automatic transmission. According to Jeep, it will offer a power of 285 hp. The customer will also be able to choose a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, with the capacity to generate 268 hp. This can only go with the automatic transmission. It is a 'medium' hybrid option, since it can be associated with a 48-watt generator that, initially, is not intended to allow driving in electric mode, but rather to improve the 'sart-stop' function. In the future, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will also be able to mount a 3.0-liter turbocharged engine.
