The SUV segment is not going through its best moment. There are many models that have been disappearing over the years and many others that have become SUVs. However, there are still some brands willing to invest in the development of new 4x4s that meet the needs of users and drivers. Today we take a look at two of them: which is better, the new Land Rover Defender or the 2020 Jeep Wrangler?

To do this, we are going to face them in one of our technical comparisons, where we will analyze some aspects such as the dimensions, the trunk, the engines, the equipment and the prices. Finally, we will draw some conclusions.
Land Rover Defender 2020

The new Land Rover Defender has just been revealed at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show as the next generation of the iconic British off-roader. It arrives with a renewed style, more technology, and new and powerful engines. However, it retains some of that classic 4x4 DNA that represented its predecessor.

How big is? The new generation of Land Rover SUV comes with two different bodies. The 90 version measures 4,323mm long, 1,996mm wide and 1,974mm high, with a 2,587mm wheelbase. The five-door 110 version, meanwhile, measures 4,758mm in length, 1,996mm in width and 1,967mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,022mm. The trunk offers between 297 and 1,263 liters of volumetric capacity in the first version, and between 857 and 1,946 liters in the second. The seating configuration allows five, six and seven passengers to be accommodated inside.

In the engine section, the new Defender 2020 is available with 2.0-liter diesel units with 200 hp and 240 hp of power, as well as 2.0-liter gasoline units with 300 hp and a powerful 3.0-liter inline six with 400 hp and microhybrid technology. All engines are associated with eight-speed automatic gearboxes and all-wheel drive systems. Next year a plug-in hybrid version will arrive, of which no further details have been disclosed.

In the equipment section, the Land Rover Defender includes notable elements such as the Head-Up Display, the Activity Key, the company's multimedia system and other options available through the different finishes: Standard, S, SE, HSE and First. Edition. In addition, some customization packages are offered: Explorer, Adventure, Country and Urban. Prices start at 54,800 euros for the 90 version and 61,300 euros for the 110.
Jeep Wrangler

The new generation of the Jeep Wrangler was officially introduced in the market last year. As with its British rival in this technical comparison, the Wrangler offers an evolutionary design heavily inspired by the easily recognizable image of the American 4x4. The off-roader features a more complete level of equipment, new engines and more technology.

Let's talk about your measurements. The Jeep SUV is available in a three and five door version (Unlimited). The first is 4,334 mm long, 1,894 mm wide and 1,858 mm high, as well as a wheelbase of 2,459 mm. The trunk has a volumetric capacity of 192 liters with an interior suitable for four passengers. In the case of the Unlimited five-door variant, the measurements are increased to 4,882 mm long, 1,894 mm wide and 1,881 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,008 mm. The trunk, meanwhile, has a volumetric capacity of 548 litres.

In the engines section, the Wrangler is available with 270 hp 2.0 turbo gasoline engines and 200 hp 2.2 CRD diesel. These engines are mated to eight-speed automatic gearboxes that send power exclusively to a four-wheel drive system.

Jeep JL RGB Halo Headlights

Finally, among the most outstanding equipment we find a complete set of safety and driving assistance systems, Jeep JL rgb halo headlights, keyless entry and start, dual-zone climate control, and multimedia system with touch screen and browser. There are three trim levels, Sport, Sahara and Rubicon, while prices start from 50,500 euros for the three-door version, and from 54,500 euros for the five-door version.
conclusion

Special mention deserves the off-road dimensions of both models. In the case of the Land Rover Defender 110 (the version with the best dimensions), it has an approach angle of 38 degrees, departure angle of 40 degrees and a breakover angle of 28 degrees. For its part, the three-door Jeep Wrangler offers 35.2 degrees of approach angle, 29.2 degrees of departure angle and 23 degrees of breakover angle.

As you can see, the Defender is a more technological and advanced car than the Wrangler, with a wider range of engines, but also with a higher price that can make a difference. In the case of the Wrangler, it is a 4x4 vehicle more focused on the off-road world, with good off-road dimensions, a good level of equipment and a slightly more competitive price.
